The ideal candidate will have at least 1–2 years of payroll experience and direct experience processing multi-state payroll and complex pay structures, including pay-per-unit compensation. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work within strict payroll deadlines. 

• Process and review biweekly payroll for a large employee population across multiple states. 

• Review payroll data for hourly, salaried, and pay-per-unit employees to ensure accuracy prior to payroll processing. 

• Validate unit-based compensation for clinical employees, including employees who may receive multiple unit rates or other forms of compensation within the same pay period. 

• Reconcile payroll information between the HR/payroll system, electronic medical record/timekeeping systems, and other payroll source data. 

• Identify missing hours, units, incorrect rates, duplicate payments, and other payroll discrepancies and work with appropriate departments to resolve issues before payroll is finalized. 

• Review employee timecards, PTO, holiday pay, bonuses, differentials, reimbursements, and other payroll adjustments. 

• Process and validate new hires, terminations, employment status changes, compensation changes, transfers, and other employee changes impacting payroll. 

• Review payroll implications associated with transitions between full-time, part-time, and PRN status. 

• Calculate and validate overtime and regular rates of pay for employees receiving multiple rates or forms of compensation, including pay-per-unit earnings. 

• Process retroactive pay, payroll corrections, off-cycle payments, and other adjustments as needed. 

• Review benefit deductions, garnishments, taxes, direct deposits, and other payroll deductions for accuracy. 

• Research and resolve employee payroll questions and discrepancies in a timely and professional manner. 

• Partner closely with Human Resources, Operations, Finance, and field leadership to resolve payroll issues. 

• Monitor payroll deadlines and follow up with managers regarding outstanding timecards, corrections, approvals, and other information required to complete payroll. 

• Assist with multi-state payroll compliance, including state and local taxation, wage and hour requirements, overtime, and final pay requirements. 

• Complete payroll audits and reconciliations before and after payroll processing. 

• Assist with quarter-end and year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and reconciliation. 

• Maintain accurate payroll documentation and confidential employee records. 

• Identify recurring payroll issues and recommend process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency. 

• Assist with payroll system testing, implementation, upgrades, and process changes as needed. 

• Perform additional payroll and HR-related responsibilities as assigned. 

Required Qualifications 

• 1–2 years of hands-on payroll processing experience. 

• Multi-state payroll experience required. 

• Experience processing pay-per-unit, piece-rate, productivity-based, or similar variable compensation required. 

• Experience processing payroll involving multiple rates of pay within the same pay period. 

• Working knowledge of federal and state wage and hour requirements. 

• Understanding of regular-rate and overtime calculations involving variable compensation. 

• Experience researching and correcting payroll discrepancies. 

• Strong Excel skills and ability to work with large amounts of payroll data. 

• Experience working with payroll/HRIS and electronic timekeeping systems. 

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills. 

• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to payroll accuracy. 

• Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and meet strict payroll deadlines. 

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive employee information.
